CUSHION COVER DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING
A part of my work at Rajans Automotive was to manage the cushion cover design and manufacturing process. I was responsible for the design, innovation, and manufacturing of Ride-on-Air covers from generation 1 to generation 3 covers. I have also worked on cushion covers for other brands, bicycles, cars, fuel bladders, lumbar supports, etc.,
The cushion cover for air cushions is typically used to
Hold/constrain the cushion in place
Offer a soft comfort layer to the user
Facilitate airflow
Protect the cushion from the external environment (like Dust, Sunlight, etc.,)
To accommodate the air pump & release mechanism
Introduction of Gated Hooks
Earlier, motorcycle air cushion brands were using underwear hooks for the mounting harnesses. Users often complained of hook failures and slipping of hooks from the loops. I was on a constant lookout for improvement & Identified a buckle manufacturer in China manufacturing gated hooks for bags & luggage. We introduced the concept in 2016 and it was an instant hit in the market. Later, manufacturers started adopting it one by one and now it has become an industry standard mounting mechanism.
